Slippery slap - Global Game jam 2019

context

Slippery slap is a game I made in the Global Game Jam of 2019 together with 6 friends who are also game designers. During the global game jam we had 48 hours to brainstorm a concept, turn this concept into a playable and make a game out of it.

Your child has been taken by researchers on the artic! Slap your way through scientists and protect your home! Home is family and they have taken it from you. Combo your way up by hitting enemies until you can reach your power form, where you are able to slide your enemies to pieces.

My part

The game jam started of with concepting and after we started creating the product right away. During the game jam I was responsible for:
   – Playable level
   – Character feel and balancing
   – Concept design
   – Basic audio implementation

MY CONTRIBUTIONS

Created a playable version of a concept in 48h with a small team

To get this playable product at I took iniative and:
– Started the brainstorm sessions for a concept with the team.
– Created concepts individually and pitched them to the team.

After agreeing on a concept I worked on:
– Breaking down the project in trello to keep track of the product and progress.
– Sharing the game vision with the team and help design and implement base features.
– Implementing basic character movement and interaction.

I created a level in 6 hours

Once all the fundamentals were created it was time to create a level, I:
– Designed the level onboarding the player to features like stealth, combo meter and progression blockers.
– Set dressed the area
– Implemented environment and hit feedback audio
– Breakable items in the environment that were used as progress blockers.
– Implementation of features made by peers into the level like the level end, different enemy types and models.

A slippery Slap Sequel Top-down arcade shooter taking place on your own computer. You accidentally got a virus and now you need to repair your hardware by surviving as long as possible to finish your Anti-Virus download.

My part

The game jam started of with concepting and after we started creating the product right away. During the game jam I was responsible for:
   – Concept design
   – Playable level
   – AI design and implementation
   – Character feel and balancing

Created a playable version of a concept in 48h with a small team

During the game jam, we started of brainstorming and we felt like making a top-down shooter. The environment has elements that would react to your gunfire. Next to that, you have to balance out between 4 objectives. You had to keep these computer components safe to repair your computer.

After the creation of the concept, we broke it down into a feature list on a trello board and started developing right away.

I created:
– The three C’s of camera, character and control.
– Enemies that follow the player and attack objectives.

I created a level in 18 hours

After the creation of required features, we could start making the level. The game took place inside a computer so my level design was based on computer components. The macro-level design was putting the four objectives in different corners and the water cooling in the middle.

My tasks were:
– 3 distinct thematic area’s (GPU, CPU and watercooling) with each its own gameplay focus.
– Set dressed the 3 area’s.
– Implementation of the objectives and enemies.
